WHY REDESIGN?

Iu-Mien Friendship wanted to improve its online presence to promote its mission. The original website was outdated, missing content, and not user-friendly.
The primary organization needs were to create a website that:

1. Better represents the community and its mission
2. Improves the user experience

WHAT DID I DO?

For the Organization:
🌟 I conducted a heuristics evaluation on the previous website and updated the visual design to better reflect the community and its mission.

For New Visitors:
🌟 I improved the new visitor user experience by optimizing the homepage and organizing the information architecture to fit their needs.

For Current Members:
🌟 I created a better user experience for current members by adding needed features to the events page.

🌟 I built the website on Webflow so non-technical members could update it as needed.

IDEATION

Turning responses into designs

Based on the responses from the user interviews, I came up with a set of design principles to follow:

1. Flexible

The design should make it easy for travelers to make changes as changes happen throughout the trip.

2. Simple

With the everything going on during the trip, a simple design will help users have clarity.

With these principles in mind, it was time to start sketching and wireframing.

Early sketches and ideas that helped in creating wireframes and prototypes.

TEST

Finding what worked and what can be improved

After creating the prototype, I tested the app with some friends to tests its usability.

I wanted to test the user interface design, focusing on the three most important user task flows: (1) adding an expense, (2) creating a trip, and (3) sending a payment request from a friend user journeys.

I got great feedback from the participants to incorporate into the final iteration. One participant even noticed a hole in the payment request user journey (thank you 🙏).
